There is a new proficiency test in this year’s FAPAS Programme for detection (presence/absence) of pork in processed foods. The two test materials are cooked beef-based meals. Registrations are now being taken. Search on “2948”.

Public Holiday in the UK (24/08/2012)

The FAPAS office will be closed on Monday 27 August 2012 due to a public holiday in the UK but will re-open on Tuesday 28 August 2012.

New Price Bands for Quality Control Materials (03/04/2012)

As from 1st May 2012 there will be a new price band structure for the sale of Quality Control materials to better reflect their preparation costs. The four new price bands will be £45, £65, £90 and £120 with a reduction in the spend required for free shipping from £700 to £350.

NEW LEAP SCHEME TASTE AND ODOUR CHEMICAL IDENTIFICATION SCHEME (28/03/2012)

At the last DWI Water Laboratory Liaison meeting held in London LEAP announced it would be setting up a taste and odour chemical identification scheme. The Scheme will prove a useful tool in helping laboratories to improve their capabilities of detecting chemicals likely to cause taste and odour problems. You can register on line until 12 April or contact fapas for more details.

New developments in food science: realising the potential of ‘omics’ technologies, 13-15 June 2012, Sand Hutton, York UK The 13th Joint Annual Fera/JIFSAN Symposium will be hosted at Fera’s Sand Hutton site. The symposium will bring together industrial stakeholders, academic and government scientists to explore the potential impact of 'omics' technologies in the agri- and food sectors. The Provisional Programme is now live and registration is now open with a reduced early-bird rate of £325 until 1 April 2012.

New Proficiency Tests in the 2012/13 FAPAS® Programme (19/12/2011)

The recently launched FAPAS® Programme includes some new proficiency tests: • More multi-mycotoxin tests including animal feed and infant food. • Melamine and cyanuric acid in feeding stuffs. • Nitrite in animal feed. • A specific migration test for formaldehyde. • Increased range of foodstuffs in the pesticides tests; herb (basil) and dried vine fruit (raisins) • Trifluralin in fish muscle. • A screening test for tree nuts in the allergens test.
