Food Chemistry

The Fapas Food Chemistry Proficiency Testing (PT) Scheme is a UKAS accredited programme offering over 300 PTs annually.

Proficiency testing is an essential part of laboratory quality procedures. Taking part gives you confidence in your laboratory equipment, methods and staff, and assurance that you are delivering the quality results demanded by your customers.

Through our aim of meeting both our food testing customer needs and the regulatory requirements, Fapas offer the widest range of matrix/analyte combinations across the globe. This gives us the ability to help you fulfil a vital process of maintaining your accreditation.

Fapas proficiency tests, as well as maintaining accreditation, can provide clarity and insights across your current analysis activities. We take this one step further through our use of real food matrices across our food chemistry scheme. This can ensure only relevant, actionable insights and improvements can be found within your current analysis activities through challenging proficiency tests.

Proficiency Testing from Fapas

Fapas covers chemical analysis of real food samples for a wide range of target analytes including:

  • nutritional components
  • additives
  • natural contaminants
  • pesticide and veterinary medicine residues
  • packaging chemical migrants.

Fapas proficiency tests can provide a valuable comparison with that of other laboratories, both on a national and international scale. This can ensure only high quality test results are offered to your customers, as well as showing your commitment to excellence across your testing activities.

Our proficiency testing activities can be used in conjunction with Fapas quality control materials, which can provide an ongoing indicator of your testing ability. This can be used to track your ability over a longer timescale, or for training purposes, as well as demonstrating to your customers, your overall commitment to quality.

Fapas participation can be used as one of the surveillance tools in support of laboratory accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025.

Participation can be at a level that suits your business - from taking part in one of our scheduled tests through to company specific bespoke tests.

Results from each proficiency test receive rigorous statistical analysis, ensuring you have clear feedback on your performance. Comprehensive reports provide information on analytical methods used by other participants.

Our experts at Fapas can provide problem solving consultancy on your laboratory procedures if required. This can be through explaining your results, as well as working with you to scope any potential improvements which may not be immediately obvious.
