Test Description

The EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation No.1169/2011 lists 14 food allergens that must always be labelled in pre-packed and non-prepacked foods.    Milk is the primary allergen to be detected in this proficiency test.  Participants can report as total milk, as casein or as beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) depending on the type of ELISA kit used.  Detections can be reported using other techniques.

To satisfy these food labelling requirements regulators challenge food testing labs to produce accurate, repeatable results from which to verify the food labelling claims made by manufacturers.

To achieve the high quality testing capabilities required, stringent quality control measures should be used. By using Fapas proficiency tests to benchmark your performance against other industry food laboratories important insights into your testing abilities can be found.

Fapas real food matrices build on this by achieve directly comparable results to inform your routine testing activities quickly and effectively.

It is important that consumers with food allergies or intolerances can make informed choices when choosing products; by taking part in this test you are ensuring an independent verification of your testing procedures to comply with regulation.  Results will be grouped and assessed according to the brand of ELISA kit used. Thus limited data may preclude assessment of small categories of results.
