Test Description

This Fapas proficiency test can help evaluate your testing ability for pesticides within wheat.

This proficiency test is specifically for a range of pesticide residues that are generally determined using specific single-residue methods. Most pesticide residues are determined using multi-residue methods, that is ones in which potentially hundreds of compounds can be measured with a single extraction protocol and instrumental method, based on multi-stage mass spectrometry.  However, some pesticides are not very amenable to the generic multi-residue approach and still require more specific extraction regimes and chromatographic-mass spectrometric approaches.  This PT has a fixed list of such pesticides for determination by single residue methods.

Chlormequat, mepiquat and trinexapac-ethyl are plant growth regulators, with glyphosate being a broadspectrum systemic herbicide used routinely across the world.  Glyphosate is of key interest to the market at the moment, as the regulators decide how to proceed with the use of the herbicide and whether it should be banned. The residue definition to include its principal degradation products and metabolites, especially AMPA, means that methods are now being extended to include these related compounds. Testing proficiency is therefore needed to take advantage of this potential regulation change, where a large section of the global food supply chain would be affected.

Trinexapac-ethyl is a new addition to this proficiency test for 2022.
