Test Description

Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic used for many bacterial treatments, and is a prohibited substance within foodstuff entering the EU and many other countries including the USA. As a result accurate testing is of great importance within detection of such substances.  Fapas veterinary medicine Proficiency Test (PT) materials include both incurred residues and fortified animal products. This PT is suitable for all methods, including screening methods, and is a quantification test.

Prawns and seafood as a whole are a protein staple of a large proportion of human diets around the world, with a sustained growth in global consumption. This high demand can put pressure on producers, and in turn increase the risk of contamination across a range of analytes.

Fish for human consumption are tightly legislated and closely monitored for compliance as veterinary medicines used in animals are likely to have a pharmacological effect in humans. So for many veterinary medicines, there are extremely low or even no maximum residue levels (MRL).

The Fapas PT materials are produced in keeping with EU MRLs or minimum required performance limit (MRPL) where MRLs are not set. The result reporting requirements are also in keeping with quality control guidelines laid out in EC/657/2002.
