Test Description

Contaminated pet food is a risk not only to the health of our pet animals, but also to those that share their homes with them and people that come into contact with them. Therefore, it is just as important to monitor the quality of pet food as it is to monitor the quality of our own foods, in order to prevent community outbreaks in both the animal and human populations.

The target microorganisms (Bacillus cereus. and Moulds) are able to produce spores which allow them to survive in extremely challenging conditions. Both can have significant impact on consumers through the production of toxins, so it is important that accurate enumeration of these organisms is carried out.

Food poisoning by coagulase positive staphylococci is under-reported due to its short duration but great number of cases typically occur in the summer when improperly stored food is exposed to warm temperature. Most domestic animals as well as human nose and skin harbour these toxin producing microorganisms, which makes cross contamination very easy.

This multiple test product duplicate as much as possible the real materials sent to laboratories and provides good value for money.

This product is suitable to benchmark your laboratory performance as well as to verify your standardised method or to validate a new laboratory method.

This product is for quantitative analysis only, and FAPAS will accept results only reported in the right units, cfu/g. Identification of the Bacillus spp. or the Moulds is not required.

Measurement of the staphylococci enterotoxin is not required. Any qualitative results will not be assessed.

Unlike some providers, this material will also contain background flora, as well as the target organisms, in order to get as close as possible to a real testing challenge.
