Test Description

Microbiological contamination of food can cause a range of sickness symptoms, the most extreme of which can result in hospitalisation, contamination can also cause food spoilage. Contamination can result from raw ingredients, poor sanitation or hygiene practices, or inappropriate storage conditions.

This qualitative proficiency test focusses on your testing ability for the detection of the pathogen E. coli 0157 in sprouting seeds and lettuce.

Sprouting seeds such as watercress are increasingly popular with consumers. This can place potentially large strain on global supply chains to meet this demand. This is further compounded by short storage times associated with fresh produce, leading to high risk of contamination if stored improperly. It is therefore important to highlight any potential unsafe levels contamination within foodstuffs. Proficiency testing measures are vital to ensure your testing measures are fit for purpose and achieve the highly accurate results required by both your customers and regulators.

Fapas proficiency tests challenge your laboratories as they would be within your routine testing activities. Our Food Microbiology proficiency test samples combine the test organisms into real food matrices or swabs, together with background flora to fully represent real-world samples.
