Test Description

The EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation No.1169/2011 lists 14 food allergens that must always be labelled in pre-packed and non-prepacked foods. Egg is one of the allergens in this list and is found in many products.

Eggs are a well-known staple food around the globe. Their high protein levels and relatively low price point have led to their worldwide success. This massive global consumption challenges food testing labs to detect eggs within foodstuffs, to validate labelling requirements set out in legislation, or highlight any potential cross contamination within non-egg based foodstuffs.

Cake mix offers a great matrix to validate your detection and quantification capabilities due to the challenging nature of the foodstuff, being a mix of various core ingredients from which contamination can easily occur.

Fapas quality control materials can be used in conjunction with proficiency tests to act on the learnings found and track the improvements made as a result. Fapas quality control materials are directly comparable to the proficiency tests, sharing exactly the same materials. This allows you to track your long term testing ability directly against your routine testing activities to ensure that high quality testing standards are being passed to your customers.

It is important that consumers with food allergies or intolerances are able to make informed choices when choosing products; by taking part in this test you are ensuring an independent verification of your testing procedures to comply with regulation.  Results will be grouped and assessed according to the brand of ELISA kit used.  Thus limited data may preclude assessment of small categories.
