Test Description

The EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation No.1169/2011 lists 14 food allergens that must always be labelled in pre-packed and non-prepacked foods.  This test material contains hazelnut and peanut and has been baked like a biscuit (before milling) to create a more complex matrix.

Hazelnuts and Peanuts are well known allergens. As such they are subject to strict regulations which challenge testing laboratories to achieve accurate results which are repeatable across a long timescale and range of testing environments.

Cooked Biscuits continue to enjoy large amounts of consumption worldwide, which is itself a real challenge for manufacturers and testing laboratories to ensure high quality products are being passed to the consumer.

By using quality control materials in conjunction with Fapas proficiency testing activities, tracking improvements across an extended timescale is achievable. This gives your laboratory the best chance of maintaining high quality testing across a range of analyte/matrix combinations.

Quality control materials also allow your testing ability to be maintained through instrumentation calibration as well as being an effective tool for staff training to standardise your testing practises across your laboratory and wider testing network.

It is important that consumers with food allergies or intolerances are able to make informed choices when choosing products; by taking part in this test you are ensuring an independent verification of your testing procedures to comply with regulation.  Results will be grouped and assessed according to the brand of ELISA kit used.  Thus limited data may preclude assessment of small categories.
