Test Description

The EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation No.1169/2011 lists 14 food allergens that must always be labelled in pre-packed and non-prepacked foods. Histamine is not one of the allergens in this list as it is classed as an intolerance rather than an allergy, however, the symptoms are very similar. Histamine may develop in some species of seafood and its presence is controlled by legislation in the EU.

It is important that consumers with food allergies or intolerances are able to make informed choices when choosing products. This reference material provides an independent verification of your testing procedures to comply with regulation.

Fapas reference materials provide effective tools to build and provide ongoing detail to quality improvement efforts. By building on the snapshot of proficiency testing activities, a long term picture of your laboratory's testing ability can be provided, to impress both accreditors and potential customers of your testing credibility.

Reference materials can be used to both standardise your testing arrangement through instrument calibration and staff training activities. Reference materials are also a valuable asset for method verification due to the known uncertainty present within the material and accompanying data sheet.
