Test Description

Animal feed plays an important part in the food chain and effects the composition and quality of the livestock products (milk, meat and eggs) that people consume.  The aim of legislation and industry self-regulation is to ensure that animal feed is safe, wholesome and does not present any danger to animal or human health and the environment, therefore you will find animal feed in various parts of our programme (e.g. mycotoxins, microbiology, pesticides, GM, melamine, veterinary drugs).  Fapas uses only real animal feeds that are from commercial animal feed suppliers, so you can be sure that the results you receive from your proficiency test correspond to your performance on your routine analytical samples.  Feed analysis for proximates can be difficult and often the method itself defines the component (e.g. fibre, starch, oil).  Therefore an external check on the execution of the method is important.  Proficiency testing can highlight inappropriate methods.

The analysis of feed for oil and sugar is important for ensuring animals receive the correct energy for their health, welfare and production and indeed for farmers this corresponds to commercial importance. The analysis of feed for oil, protein and fibre is important for ensuring animals receive the correct macro nutrients for their health, welfare and production and indeed for farmers this corresponds to commercial importance. Vitamin E is necessary for the optimum function and metabolism of the nervous, muscular, circulatory and immune systems and therefore is important in maintaining the health of the pig. Zinc and amylase neutral detergent fibre (aNDF) is specific to this proficiency test.

Proficiency testing from Fapas makes use of real food matrices within your testing practices. This allows your proficiency test results to be immediately comparable to your routine testing ability, from which to highlight any areas of improvement required to achieve or maintain your high quality testing standards.
