Test Description

Animal fats are formed from various animal products and are used within a large amount of processed foods such as fast food as fillers, and as cooking ingredients in processes such as frying.

The extensive amount of uses for animal fats create a need for effective testing underwritten by robust proficiency testing practices to provide the confidence needed for such a large part of foodstuffs.

Pesticide residues are regulated in many countries and for many commodities, with maximum residue limits set within EU and other legislation. Pesticide residues can translocate across the food chain and into animal products. This proficiency test is for laboratories analysing fat-soluble pesticide residues in animal products and plant-derived fats or oils.

Pesticide residues (fat soluble) analysis, with a number of residues present from a list of possible target compounds. This proficiency test requires identification and quantification of the analytes.

This multi-residue method includes both organochlorinated pesticides (OCs), which are banned across a large range of countries globally, including throughout the EU and North America. This is due to their potential adverse effects on wildlife and human health. Although this is the case there is still some extensive use within developing countries for disease control. As such proficient testing must be employed to monitor and detect any contamination within relevant foodstuffs such as animal fat.
