Test Description

Within this proficiency test your testing ability for pesticide residues in yard long beans purée can be evaluated. Through this exercise, the ability to highlight areas of improvement to maintain a high quality testing measures is enabled.

Pesticide Residues are used extensively across a range of crops, including legumes. These are used with the goal of maintaining high-quality produce by controlling disease and pest impacts on crops. Through good farming practises levels of pesticide residues are usually low and under safe levels. Yet as farmers come under increasing pressure to satisfy growing demand for products such as yard long beans, poor farming practices may increase levels of pesticide residues exposed to consumers. This must be controlled using effective quality control measures.

Yard long beans are consumed across the globe, which can put extensive strain on global supply chains to meet growing demands. This demand is further bolstered through the trend to health conscious consumers focussed on nutritional intake and varied diets, which yard long beans can form a foundation.

Most countries now have an extensive monitoring scheme for pesticide residues written into their legislation. There are more than 1000 compounds used worldwide as pesticides or plant protection products. When used properly, according to good agricultural practice, any residues can be expected to be below maximum residue limits. The Fapas pesticide residues proficiency tests are based on the EU monitoring list and associated MRLs but are widely applicable to most geographic areas. We also base our statistical data analysis in keeping with quality assurance guidelines as laid out in EC SANTE/11813/2017.
