Test Description

The EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation No.1169/2011 lists 14 food allergens that must always be labelled in pre-packed and non-prepacked foods.  Sulphites are one of the allergens in this list and is sometimes referred to as Sulphur Dioxide.

Sulphites are used as preservatives for both colour and flavour within a wide range of foodstuffs. Preserved foods can offer more flexibility within our ever increasing global supply chains. This flexibility in turn offers cost saving opportunities both within logistics and product development. As such Sulphites are likely to increase in use across a wide range of foodstuffs.

Due to the potential allergen properties of Sulphites accurate testing is critical to highlight and quantify any potential sulphites within foodstuffs. To maintain this accurate testing capability, Fapas quality control materials can be used to track your testing progress and highlight any potential deficiencies within your current testing arrangement, or verify your quality control procedures against industry.

It is important that consumers with food allergies or intolerances are able to make informed choices when choosing products; by taking part in this test you are ensuring an independent verification of your testing procedures to comply with regulation.
