Test Description

This reference material can evaluate your testing capability for T-2 and HT-2 toxins in oat flour.

Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi on agricultural commodities in the field or during storage.  It is estimated at 25% of the world's food crops are affected, resulting in large commercial losses. Mycotoxins can cause serious health problems (including some being suspected carcinogens) and so are tightly regulated across the world. Mycotoxin contamination is the largest cause of rapid alerts raised against imported food products.  Fapas has introduced multi-mycotoxin proficiency tests as well as those for emerging mycotoxins.

T-2 & HT-2 toxins are highly toxic when inhaled. They are also unlike other mycotoxins due to their ability to be absorbed through intact skin. As such there is an increased need to provide effective testing arrangements from which to highlight any high levels of HT-2 or T-2 in foodstuffs.

Oat flour is consumed in significant amounts globally with large demand for the product. This is due to the plethora of uses oat flour enjoys, being part of numerous processed foodstuffs. This large demand can put strain on supply chains, giving rise to poor storage conditions which will increase the risk of high levels of mycotoxins within foodstuffs.

Reference materials can provide a valuable tool from which to improve your testing ability, through method validation or accurate instrumentation calibration.
