Test Description

Antibiotics have been used as prophylactic treatment in flocks for many years. This helps to prevent colonisation of the birds’ gut by harmful bacteria and as a consequence enhances the growth of the treated chickens. However, over-use, and use too close to the date of slaughter, can result in the level of antibiotics in the meat exceeding maximum regulatory limits (MRLs).

This quality control material will contain one or more residues from the tetracycline family for identification and quantification including total tetracyclines, so is suitable for all analytical methods including screening  by ELISA test kits.

Tetracyclines are broad spectrum antibiotics often used to treat skin, chest, urethral and pelvic infections in a wide variety of food-producing animals. Concern about the possible occurrence of residues of this drug in human food has produced a need for analytical methods to monitor for this agent at trace residue levels.

Fapas quality control measures are ideal for removing potential bias from your testing practices. This can be achieved through a range of staff training activities among other techniques to maintain accurate testing. Through the use of real food matrices, any potential areas of improvement are immediately relevant and comparable to your existing testing practices, to ensure your customers receive the high-quality testing they require.
