Test Description

Within this quality control material, your testing ability for a range of aflatoxins within Ginger can be evaluated. An aflatoxin is a potent carcinogen produced by the Aspergillus flavous and Aspergillus parasiticus moulds which commonly grow and can be found in a variety of plant materials, including cereals and spices.

Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi on agricultural commodities in the field or during storage.  It is estimated at 25% of the world's food crops are affected, resulting in large commercial losses. Mycotoxins can cause serious health problems, including some being suspected carcinogens, and so are tightly regulated across the world. Mycotoxin contamination is the largest cause of rapid alerts raised against imported food products.  Fapas has introduced multi-mycotoxin proficiency tests as well as those for emerging mycotoxins.

Ginger is a well-known spice used across a range of foodstuffs, it is sold in large quantities globally within prepared foods and as a standalone product in various forms. As a result of this extensive demand, complex global supply chains are under pressure to maintain ginger supply. This can result in low-quality produce being passed to the consumer, in an effort to reduce waste and meet demand. As a result, your testing ability is required to protect customers from low quality produce, and provide the information required to meet regulatory standards.

Fapas quality control materials should be used to track your testing ability throughout the year. They can also be used to act upon your proficiency testing results, and confirm improvements made as a result of your participation.

By using real food matrices Fapas quality control materials provide highly comparable results against your routine analysis. This allows swift actions to be taken to safeguard high quality testing performance for your customers to enjoy.
