Test Description

This quality control material is for the measurement of Bisphenol A in 50% aqueous ethanol food simulant.

Foods are packaged in materials intended to protect the product, increase shelf life and make it more attractive to the consumer.  These materials can however lead to undesirable chemicals leaching into the foods. The tests are defined by standard methods and standardised food simulants.

Bisphenol A is one such chemical. It is found in a large amount of food packaging materials, especially plastics. Although current regulators widely agree that current levels of Bisphenol A within human consumption are safe, the potential toxicity of this chemical when consumed in large quantities warrants effective testing protocols.

By using aqueous ethanol as a food simulant your results can be standardised, and therefore useful over a great variety of real foodstuffs. This can promote noticeable cost savings within your quality assurance programmes, and therefore promote a larger return on investment when evaluating your testing capabilities.

Aqueous ethanol is a useful matrix to use within this proficiency test due to the solubility of migrants within it. It is therefore easier to provide close to true levels of specific migrants within this food simulant, to in turn create accurate, comparable results from which to evaluate your testing ability.

Fapas quality control materials can be used in partnership with proficiency testing activities to evaluate your testing ability in more detail and across a larger timescale than possible through proficiency testing alone. As such quality control materials can be extremely useful when providing the credibility in your results needed within such a competitive testing environment.
