Test Description

The EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation No.1169/2011 lists 14 food allergens that must always be labelled in pre-packed and non-prepacked foods.  Hazelnut is a tree nut and is one of the allergens in this list and is found in many products.

Nuts, and by extension Hazelnuts, are well known allergens across the globe. As such regulatory interest challenges labs to provide effective testing across a range of analyte/matrix combinations.

Hazelnuts supply a large amount of essential nutrients when consumed. As a result their inclusion within foodstuffs can provide an integral USP for manufacturers. Notable examples include Chocolate and Hazelnut spreads and hazelnut pralines.

Quality control materials can be used with Fapas proficiency tests to track your progress against a control across a longer timescale than previously possible. This allows you to evaluate your quality control processes over time,  such as instrumentation calibration, and staff training.  Fapas quality control materials use real food test samples made up of comparable proficiency test materials and as such can be directly comparable with your routine analysis.

It is important that consumers with food allergies or intolerances are able to make informed choices when choosing products; by taking part in this test you are ensuring an independent verification of your testing procedures to comply with regulation.  Results will be grouped and assessed according to the brand of ELISA kit used.  Thus limited data may preclude assessment of small categories.
