Test Description

Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi on agricultural commodities in the field or during storage.  It is estimated at 25% of the world's food crops are affected, resulting in large commercial losses. Mycotoxins can cause serious health problems (including some being suspected carcinogens) and so are tightly regulated across the world. Mycotoxin contamination is the largest cause of rapid alerts raised against imported food products.

Toxins DON & ZON (deoxynivalenol and zearalenone respectively) are included in the highly regulated mycotoxins. Breakfast cereal shares many of the same risks associated with flour and other cereal based processed foods, including poor storage practices. As such the ability to highlight these contaminants within breakfast cereal is of significant importance to protect both manufacturers from loss of reputation and consumers from unsafe produce.

Fapas Quality control materials use real food matrices to highlight effective areas of improvement within your current testing practices and help you maintain your ongoing testing performance between proficiency testing rounds.
