Test Description

Animal feed plays an important part in the food chain and effects the composition and quality of the livestock products (milk, meat and eggs) that people consume. The aim of legislation and industry self-regulation is to ensure that animal feed is safe, wholesome and does not present any danger to animal or human health and the environment, therefore you will find animal feed in various parts of our programme (e.g. mycotoxins, microbiology, pesticides, GM, melamine, vet drugs).

Fapas use only real animal feeds that are from commercial animal feed suppliers, so you can be sure you the results you receive from your proficiency test correspond to the performance on your routine analytical samples.  Feed analysis for proximates can be difficult and often the method itself defines the component (e.g. empirical methods for fibre, starch, oil). Therefore an external check on the execution of the method is important. Proficiency testing can highlight inappropriate methods.

Proximates inform a variety of characteristics of food products, such as quality and composition. As such effective testing is required to highlight any misleading claims or inaccurate nutritional values. Quality control materials are ideal to highlight any poor analysis practices or areas for improvement, from which to ensure high quality test results are offered to your customers. Manufacturers may also make bold labelling claims that should be verified to determine their accuracy, something which requires extensive, flexible techniques

The analysis of feed for oil, protein and fibre is important for ensuring animals receive the correct macro nutrients for their health, welfare and production and indeed for farmers this corresponds to commercial importance. This quality control material includes essential nutritional elements of iron, magnesium, manganese and selenium.

Quality control materials are invaluable in maintaining the high quality testing required to maintain the high testing standards expected by both your customers and regulators. Fapas quality control materials make use of real food matrices, which can allow you to highlight areas of bias within your current routine analysis arrangement. This could be in the form of staff training measures, or instrumentation verification activities.
