This round cannot be purchased on its own, it is only available in conjunction with the similarly numbered vet. drug residue round. Blank matrix samples are available to purchase with many of the proficiency test materials. Every effort has been made to ensure these do not contain the target analytes at concentrations that would compromise the nature of the proficiency test. Other analytes may be present. NB: Blank materials are not part of the proficiency test per se and so are not included in our scope of accreditation to ISO/IEC 17043.
Veterinary medicines used in animals have a wide range of effects in humans. Hence, many veterinary medicines have extremely low maximum residue limits (MRLs) or even no limit, where any detection is classed as non-compliant. The Fapas proficiency testing (PT) materials are produced in keeping with EU MRLs or minimum required performance limit (MRPL) where MRLs are not set.
As milk is enjoyed in large quantities globally, the ability to achieve large amounts of high-quality product to satisfy global demand is important to ensure large financial rewards are safeguarded for producers. If the right practices and supply chains are not in place, this can lead to poor farming practices being utilised to ensure financial rewards are met, which can increase the risk of high levels of veterinary medicine residues being passed on to the end consumer, which can prove harmful to health in some instances.
Animal products for human consumption are tightly legislated and closely monitored for compliance. Veterinary medicines used in animals are likely to have a pharmacological effect in humans. The result reporting requirements are also in keeping with quality control guidelines laid out in EC/657/2002. Fapas veterinary medicine test materials include incurred residues, as well as fortified animal products, and are suitable for all methods, including screening methods (for the detection of the total amount of that chemical class).
