Test Description

The EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation No.1169/2011 lists 14 food allergens that must always be labelled in pre-packed and non-prepacked foods. Soya is one of the allergens in this list, derived in many forms and is found in many products.

Soya beans are well known as a potential allergen, but so too as a good source of protein. This has led to their success as meat substitutes. Soya beans have wide ranging uses within processed foodstuffs due to their composition of useful vitamins and minerals. This can increase the risk of soya derivatives being unknowingly added to foodstuffs, resulting in inaccurate labelling and potential risk to those with soya intolerances.

Accurate testing is needed to highlight soya, and by extension soya protein, levels in foodstuffs. To aid within this, Fapas quality control materials can be used as part of a well-designed quality assurance programme. Quality control materials can be used to standardise your testing practices through staff training activities as well as remove any unconscious bias through effective instrumentation verification.

It is important that consumers with food allergies or intolerances are able to make informed choices when choosing products. This quality control material enables you to ensure an independent verification of your testing procedures to comply with regulation.  Assigned values are grouped according to the brand of ELISA kit used. Thus limited data may preclude assessment of small categories of results.
