Blank Material
This round cannot be purchased on its own, it is only available in conjunction with the similarly numbered pesticide residue round. Blank matrix samples are available to purchase with many of the proficiency test materials. Every effort has been made to ensure these do not contain the target analytes at concentrations that would compromise the nature of the proficiency test. Other analytes may be present. NB: Blank materials are not part of the proficiency test per se and so are not included in our scope of accreditation to ISO/IEC 17043.
Pear is a commonly grown fruit which is consumed worldwide in various forms and within various recipes. In fact it is so popular that an estimated 3,000 known species of pear are grown globally. It can be consumed in a variety of ways: fresh, canned, as a juice or dried, but this proficiency test will be in purée form. Due to this extensive demand there is a real need for effective testing abilities from which to highlight any low quality or potentially unsafe produce with high pesticide residues levels.
To ensure a high-quality crop, suppliers regularly use pesticides to reduce disease and pests within their crop. Through good farming practices, the levels of pesticides passed to the consumer is low and manageable below safe levels. Suppliers may not always be utilising good farming practice, so it is important to ensure high-quality testing to identify any high levels of various pesticides being passed to consumers.
This proficiency test is specifically for a range of pesticide residues that are generally determined using specific single-residue methods. Most pesticide residues are determined using multi-residue methods, that is ones in which potentially hundreds of compounds can be measured with a single extraction protocol and instrumental method, based on multi-stage mass spectrometry. However, some pesticides are not very amenable to the generic multi-residue approach and still require more specific extraction regimes and chromatographic-mass spectrometric approaches. This PT has a fixed list of such pesticides for determination by single residue methods.
Fapas proficiency testing activities can ensure your testing practises meet industry standards by highlighting areas of improvement within your current routine analysis activities. Through the use of challenging, real food matrices within test materials; areas of improvement can be highlighted quickly and concisely, to provide effective steps to ensure only high quality test results are offered to consumers.
This blank material is ideal to ensure effective calibration curves are created. This can ensure only high quality test results are found. Blank materials from Fapas are ideal for ensuring matrix matching takes place. By using blank materials as close to positive test samples as possible the matrix effect is dramatically reduced.
