Salmonella spp. in Peanut (Ground)is not currently within scope of accreditation to ISO 17043.
Nuts are a valuable source of proteins, monounsaturated fats, fibre and vitamins due to their unique nutrient profiles. Several health benefits are related to the consumption of nuts and seed, but these nutritional properties provide good conditions for the survival of microorganisms during processing. Salmonella species are intracellular pathogens, which usually invade only the gastrointestinal tract of the host and cause salmonellosis.
Some seeds and nuts have direct contact with the soil, which increase the chance for environmental contamination. In fact, about two percent of all peanuts before any treatment are contaminated with salmonella. Studies have shown that once present in peanut butter, salmonella can survive very many months, even years. This survival ability has led to several outbreaks of salmonellosis linked to peanut products in recent years.
Our matrix ground peanuts can be used as a representative material for nut and peanut butter products.
This detection method is suitable for routine laboratory performance check as well as verification of standardised method or validation of a new laboratory method.
The results must be reported as detected or not detected in 25g for both test materials provided. The species identification of the target organism is not required.
Unlike some providers, this material is created with real matrix which will contain background flora as well as the target organisms in order to get as close as possible to a real testing challenge.
