Test Description

Microbiological monitoring in support of water quality assurance covers a range of organisms, of which parasitology is given special priority. Cryptosporidium and Giardia are found in every region of the world and have been recognised as the two of the most common causes of water-borne illness.

The parasites exist as oocysts and cysts in the environment and can survive a long period of time in water from lakes, rivers, streams and urban water catchment. Communities that obtain their drinking water from any of these sources should be vigilant because these organisms are highly resistant to chlorine and other bacteria killing disinfectants used in the drinking water. Additionally, they are small enough to pass through some types of filters used in some conventional water treatment systems.

Cryptosporidium and Giardia thrive only in a living host and do not multiply in the environment. Therefore, the Fapas Parasitology proficiency tests are intended for routine analysis and microscopy examination using non-viable organisms. This approach allows the Fapas® products to be shipped safely around the world.

These proficiency tests will ensure that high-quality testing standards are achieved and maintained. This can therefore ensure that your customers and regulators receive highly accurate test results without significant bias.
