Test Description

This test material is chilli powder, which is provided in a powder form.  The analytes of interest on this occasion are Aflatoxins.  Aflatoxin is a potent carcinogen produced by the Aspergillus flavous and Aspergillus parasiticus moulds which commonly grow and can be found in many food types such as spices.

Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi on agricultural commodities in the field or during storage.  It is estimated at 25% of the world's food crops are affected, resulting in large commercial losses. Mycotoxins can cause serious health problems (including some being suspected carcinogens) and so are tightly regulated across the world. Mycotoxin contamination is the largest cause of rapid alerts raised against imported food products.  Fapas has introduced multi-mycotoxin proficiency tests as well as those for emerging mycotoxins.

Chilli Powder is used regularly as part of many recipes and processed foodstuffs all across the globe. As such it is imperative to achieve high quality testing from which to address any mycotoxins issues you may have within your customers' supply chains. Chilli powders themselves are increasingly made up of a large amount of chilli variants, from a range of growers within one chilli powder product. This creates large challenges for manufacturers to ensure high quality products from a range of sources. To help achieve this you effective testing practises are crucial to provide the confidence manufacturers need in their supply chains.

To be sure of your effective testing practices, well-designed quality assurance programmes must be introduced. Fapas proficiency tests can form the basis of these, from which to provide incremental, long term solutions to maintain a high quality testing service offered to your customers. Fapas test materials utilise real food samples that are immediately comparable to your current routine analysis activities. This allows you to highlight and action areas of improvement quickly and easily across a range of potential issues.
