Test Description

To ensure a high-quality crop, suppliers regularly use pesticides to reduce disease and pests within their crop. Through good farming practices, the levels of pesticides passed to the consumer is low and manageable below safe levels. Suppliers may not always be utilising good farming practice, so it is important to ensure high-quality testing to identify any high levels of various pesticides being passed to consumers.

Most countries now have an extensive monitoring scheme for pesticide residues written into their legislation. There are more than 1000 compounds used worldwide as pesticides or plant protection products. When used properly, according to good agricultural practice, any residues can be expected to be below maximum residue limits. The Fapas pesticide residues proficiency tests are based on the EU monitoring list and associated MRLs, but are widely applicable to most geographic areas. We also base our statistical data analysis in keeping with quality assurance guidelines as laid out in EC SANTE/11945/2015.

Pesticides are used globally; the benefits of improved yield can provide financial reward from which to grow supply operations. As such there is a real danger of overuse. This can lead to increased levels of pesticides being exposed to consumers, which must be identified using effective testing measures.

Blueberry puree can be made up of a range of blueberries, exposing consumers to the risk of pesticide contamination within this foodstuff. It is important to highlight any high levels of pesticide residues and as such effective testing measures must be utilised to safeguard the consumer against potentially unsavoury foodstuffs.

This proficiency test has an extensive target list, offering a comprehensive range of pesticides including insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, pyrethroids, organophosphates, organochlorine pesticides and neonicotinoids. This proficiency test requires identification and quantification of the analytes.
